Evaluation Question 4

We had not used this software before AS which meant our knowledge of it was vague and rudimentary at best. However our preliminary task helped us to begin to establish techniques and learn how to operate the software these skills used being continued forward to both our AS and A2 work and extend upon them. Filters and transitions were one of the main techniques used within our A2 work to further the quality. We used different filters such as 'dry heat' to establish a time scale within our narrative so that the audience could clearly follow the different shifts in time without being confused which would have been difficult due to our complex narrative without the use of these filters and transitions like cross dissolve.

DSLR Camera / Filming
At both AS and A2 we used a DSLR camera, however when filming our preliminary task we had used a casio camera which was extremely problematic as not only was our footage blurry and pixilated but it limited us in terms of our techniques causing us to make the right decision to change to a DSLR camera. At AS, due to our inexperience we lacked in camera angles meaning we had to learn and explore how to use different techniques to our advantage. We were able to carry forward the skills learnt at AS forward to A2 so that we could use more complex angles and techniques and expand upon our knowledge, some of these shots included hand held camera and low angle shots.

Photoshop
We had not used photoshop in our time in AS however this was not to either of our detriment as not only do we both do A-Level photography, but one of us did GCSE media where we did print based media meaning that between us we understood the conventions of print based media and how to use the software efficiently to fit the audience.

Emaze
We used the software Emaze however it was not without difficulty due to its difficult format and layout which meant that often parts of our work were cut off or left out. to rectify this it was a simple form of trial and error to see what text and images worked best in the small scale that we had while still being legible.

Extended Task

To what extent does our product have commercial and audience value?

Commercial value is when a company or product seeks to gain and maximise the value of commerical appeal and worth of their product.

Our product has commerical value because...
  • It is on Youtube, a mass audience software meaning that it is easily accessible ensuring a higher audience value because they are able to not only reach a wider audience but their is more opportunity for the video to be accessed and viewed on different mediums encouraging the audience to view the product.
  • Even though the original songs is niche, it has the opportunity for huge commerical value with the proper promotion such as adverts and posters i.e: our digipak.
  • Our product has the opportunity for commerical value because this is our artists debut album meaning that people are yet to form an opinion of her and her music and if the video was to be successful it could start a name for the artist and lead to further opportunity and therefore increase the chances of higher commerical value.

Alice - Final Music Video

This is our final completed video. We are both happy with the finished result. If we had of had more time we would have possibly re filmed a few of the shots to make them clearer but the shots we have still work successfully. We found that one of our most successful shots was the one where there was an audio visual match because as the line 'when everything you live for is gone' was song, the girl disappeared which was symbolic to the narrative. Overall we are extremely happy with the final result.

Poster - Final Draft

photo Poster_zpsxakrk3l7.jpgAfter receiving feedback on our old poster, we concluded that our poster was not as successful as it could have been so we changed the whole concept of our poster while still keep the picture and font to achieve continuity. We are much happier with this poster than our previous as it is clearer to see the writing and overall the outlook of the poster is more professional and fulfils the purpose of advertisement clearer than our last as it not only fits the conventions of a typical poster but is clear to read and the background is no longer a distraction. We were able to completely change our poster while still keeping the previous content of the poster. The poster also clearly displays our theme as the celotape is something which you would typically find in a vintage style piece as it creates a DIY type style. The text is now much bigger and bolder and instantly draws your attention fulfilling its purpose of advertisment, this purpose being further increased by the use of the contact information as it allows the audience to engaage with the poster and have the opportunity to respond to the content.
Overall this poster was much more of a success than our previous and we are both glad that even though these changes were last minute, they were made.
